FARSI VENTO
2024 Alberto Favaro
Installation:
x 6 fans, synthetic fabric, plastic, 2024
Short Description
FARSI VENTO is a reimagining of traditional hand fans, which typically feature bucolic landscapes, by replacing those images with scenes from contemporary tragedies such as the conflict in Gaza. In Italian, the phrase farsi vento (fanning oneself) is synonymous with indifference, making the juxtaposition even more poignant.
The foldable nature of the fans makes them a portable form of art, capable of being displayed in various contexts through spontaneous and unexpected performances. This allows for a subtle yet impactful intrusion of urgent, often ignored issues, confronting the tendency to overlook or conceal uncomfortable truths.
As part of a collaboration with the PONKS collective, images from Alberto Favaro’s FARSI VENTO series have been printed and posted around the island of Malta under the title RIMES OF INDIFFERENCE.
6 posters on copy paper, 2024
RIMES OF INDIFFERENCE is a poetic street intervention pairing abstract verses with photographs of fans. The work subtly addresses themes of detachment, displacement, and the invisible forces that shape our surroundings.
The installation FARSI VENTO and the posters RIMES OF INDIFFERENCE has been shown in the exhibition
"Fejn Kontu?! "At the Societa’ Dante Alighieri,
